A geodesic is a specific shape, i.e. “an almost spherical structure based on a network of struts arranged on great circles”. A geodesic greenhouse is constructed in this shape. It may or may not may not be biologically isolated from the outside world, but it generally is not self-contained i.e. there is generally an ongoing exchange of fertilizer, water, oxygen, CO2 etc with the outside world.
A biodome, on the other hand, is generally used to refer to a totally enclosed eco-system typically used to research the self-sustainability of such systems. Biodomes may or may not be constructed with geodesic structures.
