what do I do about young impatiens turning white?

Question by Jay Lew: what do I do about young impatiens turning white?
I planted impatiens from seeds in a small greenhouse kit, they sprouted well, and I just transferred them to a bigger pot. We put them outside, we live in upstate NY and it was about 60′ and sunny, some of the leaves turned white. I don’t know what caused this and they are gifts my youngest kids plan to give for Mother’s Day…please help. I don’t want to start over again (no time)

Some impatiens such as “Snow and Ice” or “Peaches and Cream” have white tipped leaves. I’ve never grown them, personally, (I live in Florida and we can’t grow all types here, too hot). Perhaps that is what you planted. My only suggestion is to give them time and wait and see what happens. Whatever you do, try to keep them healthy so your wife knows how much she is loved (consider taking pictures of the young plants, just in case). I think you’ll be fine.

To tell you the truth, that is one of the sweetest questions I’ve seen here…what darling children you have, and what a great husband you must be.
