Is Rick Santorum, a man of the people as he claims, a Washington outsider that we can identify with?
Question by : Is Rick Santorum, a man of the people as he claims, a Washington outsider that we can identify with?
No, Rick Santorum is the best thing, that could possibly happen for Obama; for Santorum to be the final candidate for president nominate of the Guardians Of Plutocracy (GOP) and here is why:
http://www.canadianbusiness.com/article/…
WASHINGTON (AP) February 16, 2012
Also, on three occasions now, I have heard Santorum talk about his being a Washington outsider and a man of the people; about his grandfather being a coal miner. My grandfather was also a coal miner. In point of fact, so was my father, and while I am not a coal miner, I am definitely a Washington outsider. But, Santorum himself is anything but a Washington outsider and a man of the people, and the people need to know that.
Rick Santorum served 12 years in the United States Senate, and when the people of Pennsylvania finally found out what he was all about, they voted him out of office in a 16 point margin of defeat.
Santorum’s 2010 tax returns show he made more than $ 550,000 in media and consulting fees, paid to him through a corporation that he himself had previously set up; Excelsior LLC. The previous year, Santorum made more than $ 820,000 in fees, also paid through that same firm.
Santorum, 53, has tried to sell himself, in the Republican primaries, as both a Washington outsider and a social conservative, stressing his family’s coal-mining background and his appeal to religious and working-class voters. His personal finances tell a different story, detailing the trajectory of a politician who grew more prosperous in the Senate and became a millionaire by using his Beltway connections. His newfound affluence reflects his close ties to Washington’s business and lobbying circles during and after his 12 years in the Senate
Last year, the former Pennsylvania senator disclosed investment and real estate assets totaling as much as $ 2.5 million. In his presidential Financial Disclosure, spanning 18 months between 2010 and 2011, Santorum also listed $ 1.3 million in income as a consultant coming from media appearances and corporate work on behalf of health care corporations, energy corporations, and social conservative special interest groups.
Rising to GOP leadership in the Senate as Republican Conference Chairman, Santorum pushed to expand the influence of Republican-leaning business interests. As Conference Chairman, he headed GOP Senate communications efforts and met regularly with GOP-leaning business and lobbying figures. He raised more than $ 550,000 from lobbyists during his unsuccessful 2006 Senate re-election campaign.
After his Senate defeat, Santorum, just as Gingrich, did not register as a lobbyist, but he aided corporate and other interests as a consultant. He was paid $ 142,500 by Consol Energy, a Pennsylvania-based energy firm with numerous Appalachian coal mines. That firm has lobbied against Obama administration efforts to tighten limits on greenhouse gas emissions and mine safety regulations.
Santorum was also paid $ 65,000 by the American Continental Group, a D.C. lobbying firm with an assortment of corporate clients, and $ 125,000 by the Clapham Group, a Virginia firm that aids religious rights organizations. He further benefited from media work, paid $ 230,000 for appearances on Fox News, as well as more than $ 80,000 for stints as a radio commentator.
Santorum was also paid nearly $ 400,000 in compensation and stock options as a board director at Universal Health Services, a hospital management firm. He owns $ 250,000 in Universal stock. As a senator, Santorum had sponsored several bills to secure more Medicaid funding for hospitals run by Universal and other medical firms in Puerto Rico.
According to his presidential disclosure, Santorum also owns five rental properties in State College, Pa., worth 1.6 million dollars. Santorum and his family now live in a four-bedroom northern Virginia house on five acres assessed at $ 1.4 million in 2010.
This is a Washington outsider and a man of the people??? No, this is a portrait of a blatantly dishonest man seeking to become the president of the greatest nation on the planet.

WASHINGTON (AFP) Immigrants’ rights?
Question by bad girl: WASHINGTON (AFP) Immigrants’ rights?
WASHINGTON (AFP) Immigrants’ rights advocates, elated by the
resounding success
of Monday’s “National Day of Action,” which drew the backing of
hundreds of
thousands of protesters across the United States, now are planning a
national
boycott which they hope will have an even greater resonance.
Organizers are
planning the May 1 “Great American Boycott,” urging illegal
immigrants — who
cannot vote and who have only limited political power — to flex
their economic
muscle. Protesters are being urged to refrain from shopping, and to
stay away
from school and work.
You should take a moment to let that sink in.
This is a movement orchestrated by people who entered the US
illegally, and then
want to scream about their “rights.” WHAT RIGHTS? YOU DON’T EVEN
BELONG HERE!
Let’s take a look at some of the many benefits that illegal aliens
have blessed
our great country with:
Street gangs, graffiti, drugs, skyrocketing healthcare, depreciation
of property
value, illiteracy. The list could go on. What they actually have to
offer
(cheap labor) pales to what they have given our country to deal
with. I’ll take
expensive vegetables over expensive healthcare any day!
And now, like terrorists, they are going to attack our economy –
the one entity
that makes our nation stand out from all the others. The backbone of
our nation.
The country they came to like locusts so they could reap the
benefits is now the
focus of their boycott. You’ve seen it on TV: Marching on our
American streets
waving their Mexican flags, boldly showing that they can be more
racist than who
they accuse of, and yet the obvious is totally oblivious to
them……IF YOU’VE
GOT IT SO BAD HERE, THEN LEAVE!!!
To all the real Americans, you can do one small thing on May 1st,
2006. It won’t
be racist, nor will it be violent. It will not be boastful,
arrogant, selfish,
nor distasteful. It will not be any of those things that
our “guests” have
already displayed. What it will do is nullify a movement.
All you have to do is buy something on May 1st. Make up for what
they will try
to take away. It doesn’t have to be a new car or house (unless you
were already
planning on getting one). It simply needs to be a day
of trading.
Hold off grocery buying until May 1st. Take your wife out to eat
that night. Get
the kids pizza, hamburgers, whatever! Make several trips to the
convenience
store. Buy your meals at work. Fill up your tank. Shop for clothes,
furniture,
outdoor equipment. If it needs to be bought, BUY IT MAY 1st!
Those are just a few suggestions. We’re not asking you to spend your
inheritance
that day, but just to spend more than you normally would. Even if
it’s only a
few dollars, this will help soften the blow that the Mexicans will
try to
inflict on our economy that day. It sounds trivial at first, but if
this idea
gets around, what the Mexicans set out to do will fail.
NOW COMES THE HARD PART: This email will not self-destruct if you
don’t send it
to someone. It will not cause bad luck, nor will it make you
impotent. It will
not do some trick or show a cute little animation if you send it
to “X” amount
of people. You will not get paid for doing it.
It will not help to spread the message though if it just gets
deleted. Forward
you will…..

Answer by dixie_til_i_die
I will see that this gets sent out. I’m with you, they are a drain on the economy. We don’t usually eat out on Monday, but we will May 1st. I don’t usually buy groceries or gas on Monday, but I will do both. And I hate to shop for clothes, but I need some new shoes, so they too will be bought on Monday.

Does anyone know about the Master Gardener program in western Washington?
Question by : Does anyone know about the Master Gardener program in western Washington?
The more I read, the more it sounds like being a Master Gardener is not a profession one goes into to make money, or support a family with. It sounds more like you get a great education, but you do all volunteer work? Does anyone go on to do career gardening, or whatever you would call it?
Best answer:
Answer by Trish JPA and Jewish Pastafarian
From what I can gather from the web site, it’s pretty much a volunteer-training program. I’m sure some people manage to take it to the level that they can make a living off it; how common that is, I don’t know.
