Question by Nicole: Gardening problem – How many cubic feet of topsoil should Mrs. Smith order if she wants to cover a rectangular?
    1. Gardening problem – How many cubic feet of topsoil should Mrs. Smith order if she wants to cover a rectangular area of his lawn that measures 10 ft x 5 ft to a depth of 4 in.?

    2. Jackie goes to the store to buy some meat. The meat costs $ 6.260/kg. How many grams of meat could she buy for $ 10?

    Best answer:

    Answer by Tyler
    1. i’m going to convert everything to inches first. it’d be easier to keep it all in feet but i don’t like it.
    120in * 60in * 4in = 28,800 cubed inches.
    28,800/12 = 2,400 cubic feet

    #2 1,000 g = 1 kg
10.00/6.26 = 1.597kg this is how much she can buy in kilograms.
to convert to grams, simply multiply by 1,000
Jackie can buy 1,597 grams of meat

Smith College 2010 Spring Bulb Show

Check out these greenhouse temperature control images:

Smith College 2010 Spring Bulb Show

A spectacular array of blossoming fresias, crocuses, hyacinths, narcissi, irises, lilies and tulips provide an early glimpse of spring at Smith College’s Lyman Conservatory in Northampton, Massachusetts for two weeks from March 7 through March 22.
Smith’s spring bulb show is a long-standing tradition of Smith College’s Botanic Garden, dating back more than 75 years.
It’s quite a scientific feat to force thousands of bulbs to bloom in unison weeks before their outdoor counterparts dare end their hibernation. Ordinarily blooming at different times, some 5,000 bulbs are coaxed into a simultaneous blooming beginning in October when Smith horticulture students pot them up and put them into cold storage. Starting in January, the bulbs are transferred to the greenhouses and, with careful timing and temperature control, are ready for their colorful debut in March.
