What are the consequences of greenhouse gases in i) natural greenhouse effect, ii) enhanced greenhouse effect?
Question by MiRaie: What are the consequences of greenhouse gases in i) natural greenhouse effect, ii) enhanced greenhouse effect?

Some gases (“greenhouse gases”) let sunlight in, which warms the Earth, and then block that heat from leaving. That’s the “natural greenhouse effect”, mostly caused by water vapor. Without it Earth would be very cold.
Man is making excessive amounts of greenhouse gases, mostly by burning fossil fuels. That causes the delicate natural balance to go out of whack and the Earth warms unnaturally. That’s global warming, which I suppose could be called “enhanced greenhouse effect” although I haven’t seen that term used.
Global warming won’t be a Hollywood style disaster. Gradually coastal areas will flood and agriculture will be damaged. But it will be very bad. Rich countries will cope, but it will take huge amounts of money. In poor countries many people will die of starvation, but not all of them.
Most scientists say, in 20-50 years. But we need to start right now to fix it, fixing it will take even longer than that.

Question by : How is my energy efficient Heat Pump saving Green house Gases when I have to constantly?
have a service tech come out in a gas guzzling service truck with all the different parts it has to haul around to fix all the different types of energy efficent heat pumps on the market today.

Greenhouse gasses absorb and emit infrared radiation, and they trap heat within the atmosphere, which has a warming effect on the Earth. The Earth would be cooler without them, so life on Earth would have evolved differently.

Can we reduce greenhouse gases with a simple pill?
Question by Lone Papa: Can we reduce greenhouse gases with a simple pill?
I found this product at www.save-gas-and-globe.com. According to the site, emissions are reduced by as much as 75% when using this pill, and tests were conducted by an independent testing service. One was even done by the City government of Wichita. Should we not all try this to do our part?

My gas emissions are greatly reduced when I take Beano…

Q&A: i have a project for chem about the atmosphere and how greenhouse gases and pollution have an effect on it.?
Question by rei: i have a project for chem about the atmosphere and how greenhouse gases and pollution have an effect on it.?
i need some help with this…i understand that greenhouse gases like carbon and pollution are bad but…what effect does that have on us? i know its bad but is it a true heath hazard? for example:can it cause cancers at high altitudes…? or other diseases? or does the atmosphere have nothing to do with those?

Answer by Stefano C
Well, carbon is not really bad for your health.
But pollution and carbon fibers(!), can slowly contaminate your lungs.. which will give you lung cancer..
Although this only a problem in big cities.
As a greenhouse gas, they have indirectly a bad effect on us, as it heats up the earth, and some gases can also make holes in the atmosphere, which will allow more UV into our earth.. which also will give us cancer

MAPI ideas Vol. 1, No 6: Greenhouse Gases and Long-term Growth
Economist Garrett Vaughn discusses the the President’s proposal addressing climate change by reducing US’s current level of greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020, and by 2050, to a mere 20 percent of 1990 levels. The direct impacts of costs will be felt by US manufacturers with energy-intensive processes.

SunPower Corp. (NASDAQ:SPWRA) announced that it has formed a special interest group with distributed power control systems manufacturers SolarBridge Technologies and Tigo Energy, according to Barclays. The special interest group is to set protocols within the solar industry to help lower total systems costs. The company also announced it has submitted its first response to the Carbon Disclosure Project, which is an organization that works with shareholders and businesses to disclose the greenhouse gas emissions of major corporations. SunPower Corporation is an integrated solar products and services company that designs, manufactures and markets high-performance solar electric power technologies.

Grasslands Sequester Greenhouse Gases Too

OVERTON — New equipment will enable Texas Agricultural Experiment Station scientists fine- tune grassland management to sequester carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. The new equipment, a carbon, nitrogen, sulfur analyzer, will also allow him and other researchers at the Texas A&M University System Agricultural Research and Extension Center at Overton to more quickly analyze the nutritive value of forages, said Dr. Vincent Haby, Experiment Station soil scientist.

Q&A: What are the effects of carbon monoxide on greenhouse gases?
Question by : What are the effects of carbon monoxide on greenhouse gases?
please this is for a science fair project
I know one of the greenhouse gases is carbon dioxide so how does carbon monoxide effect it how?
Best answer:
Answer by Mountainboy19682
Carbon monoxide is a weak direct greenhouse gas. It absorbs infrared radiation in a narrow band at 2143 wavelengths per centimeter. Because both the infra red absorption and abundance of carbon monoxide are much less than carbon dioxide it is a much less important greenhouse gas. However it does have some other important indirect consequences. Carbon monoxide in the atmosphere reacts with hydroxyl radicals reducing their concentration. Hydroxyl radicals also react to eliminate other greenhouse gasses such as methane. Thus higher carbon monoxide levels induce higher methane levels. Carbon monoxide also reacts with sunlight to give ozone – which is a very powerful greenhouse gas.

What is the reason that “greenhouse gases don’t drive the climate”?
Question by Dana1981: What is the reason that “greenhouse gases don’t drive the climate”?
Contrarians seem to love making this argument. In fact, this is a direct quote from a recent contrarian answer.
“greenhouse gases don’t drive the climate”
What is the basis for this claim? Aside from the 800-year lag argument, which simply shows that CO2 does not normally initiate a warming event.
I’ve never punched anybody in the face. That doesn’t mean I can’t do it. Claiming that CO2 can’t drive the climate because it hasn’t done so in the recent past (which, is debatable, since it did drive climate change for the 4200 years after the 800 year lag), doesn’t prove that CO2 can’t drive the climate. That’s a logical fallacy.
So can anybody explain how if you were to increase the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere by a large amount, why it would not cause the planet to warm and its climate to change?

It’s not based on science. It’s a gut reaction. People think “Oh, 300 parts per million is so small it can’t have an effect on anything!”
