Architect: Handle design aspects, and any big project will have at lest one to sign off on the plans. This is because they have a formal education. They tend to work for a design firm, and pay wise they typically get more then the other groups.
Designer: Also handles design aspects. Education ranges from little(enough to produce plans) to not quite an architect. They typically work for a contractor, under an architect at a firm, or freelance. Pay can range from meh to descent. (these are the people that have caused thousands to slave at keeping plants ill-suited for a climate alive in it.)
Contractor: The people that make the design happen. Lest required education as only the on site boss needs to know how to read the plans, and explain it to the workers. Also has the lowest pay as the lowest bid gets the contract in most cases.

I want to construct a 2 story house approx. 2000 sq/ft. Before calling an architect, I wnat to know how much they will charge for this design- I already sketched out the plan and elevations what i wanted the house look like. Is this help to reduce the architect’s cost?
Best answer:
Answer by Mr America
it won’t affect the cost any. he’s still going to have to do all the detail work figuring out how to account for the stuff like electric, plumbing and HVAC that you likely(nothing personal) don’t understand.

Question by bsminutes: Need career advice from a Landscape Architect?
I know what a LA does but are there many jobs available and do you have to move to a big city to get a job or can you obtain one in a more rural area? Does the job consist of somebody staying in the office the majority of the time or does it actually allow you to go out in the field for more of a hands-on approach? Also, what is the average salary of a landscape architect?
Best answer:
Answer by Ty H
The more successful ones are out in the field. Rural areas dont need them much. But small towns to big cities the job is in high demand.

Career Advice On Becoming A Landscape Architect by Lorna Davis (Full Version)
Highlights at icould.com Lorna Davis is a Landscape Architect at Halcrow – “I create spaces that people want to live in, and also open up the opportunity for encouraging wildlife, and encouraging habitat creation.” But she chose the subject by chance. “I wrote a list of all the courses that I could do with what I’d done at school – which was Geography, Art and Design, and Design and Technology. So having written this list down, I shut my eyes, and I got a pen, and I stuck it in the page. And it stuck on Landscape Architecture.” Now she had decided that it was a good choice, and it really is something she wants to keep on doing.

Architect & carpenter craft tiny (120-sq-ft) backyard studio
When architect Sarah Deeds wanted to set up a home office, there wasn’t an extra room in the 500-square-foot one-bedroom home she shares with her carpenter partner John McBride, so she looked to the backyard for space. There- tucked into a back corner- she and McBride built the largest structure allowed by the city of Berkeley without a permit (though they did get an electrical permit). At 120 square feet their backyard hideaway was carefully designed to maximize space. Deeds shaped the building as an irregular pentagon to take full advantage of every corner. For the wider end McBride custom-built a wall-to-wall sofa (large enough for sleeping), using just a steel support bar (no legs) to give more space for the wooden storage drawers underneath. The narrower end houses a desk that curves like the office to allow space for Deeds, two clients and a desktop shaped to hold a full set of architecture plans (plus thin storage drawers custom-designed for plans). The space is condensed, but Deeds sees that as an advantage: it puts you closer to your views and nature. And since the footprint of the office is minimal, there’s still plenty of vegetation in the 3100-square-foot backyard. More information at original story: faircompanies.com

Thanks for the answers, but I’ve found out myself. In case you’re wondering, it was Alison and Peter Smithson.

Architect and Interior Design?
Question by : Architect and Interior Design?
I’m 15 and I was thinking about becoming an architect because I like interior design so much. The reason I would even want to become an architect if I like interior design is simply because I would want to design the structure as well as the inside design of the interior of the structure (this is a must). I am 100% certain this is the profession I want to pursue. The problem is I’m not good at math for the architecture side of it, and I don’t have the money to afford a big university. So, sense I’m only 15 I think it would be a good idea to start “becoming” an architect now. So my question is can anyone tell me what kind of knowledge an architect is expected to know?
BTW: I’m homeschooled which is very flexible, and I want to start studying to become an architecture now. So PLEASE if you know any books I can buy at a Barns and Noble that would help me, that would be excellent!!
Also, if you know any books on modern interior design and architecture, that would also be excellent!
Thanks you!
