Q&A: In Minecraft, how do I prevent monsters from spawning in my base?
Question by Benajmin: In Minecraft, how do I prevent monsters from spawning in my base?
I have a rather large base in minecraft, One room keeps getting mob spawns, It’s sort of a greenhouse room with lots of trees, high ceilings, a glass roof and 2 sides that are mostly glass. Its fairly well lit and has torches every 3 blocks horizontally. Its grass floored also .The roof is wide open, more dimly lit than the inside of my base, also grass floored and gets no spawns! Whats going on here?
I find this very irritating, as I must hide on my roof every night.

if you have high ceilings, they can spawn up in the trees where there isn’t much light.
Put some blocks on the ceiling and place torches on the blocks.

Trees give adequate shade for a monster to spawn, that may be the problem. Also, they can spawn on top of the trees, which are no doubt poorly lit. I recommend that you put a roof 8 blocks high, the minimum requirements for a tree to grow.
