heated outdoor tortoise enclosure?
Question by frank: heated outdoor tortoise enclosure?
I’m trying to keep my greek tortoises outside 24/7, they live in a large gated enclosure where they can’t burrow out of and I put wire over the top to prevent anything from getting in. It’s starting to get colder outside (we live in tucson, Arizona) but I don’t think the temperatures will fall below anything 50degrees during the winter. I was wondering if there was a way to heat part of his enclosure without electricity like making some sort of greenhouse and with what, I tried making a mini greenhouse out of a waterbottle and partially burying it but at the end of the day it was the same temperature as outside.
I also don’t want to make a huge building project or anything so I was also wondering if they make solar powered electric outlets so I can plug in a heating pad without having a huge cord leading back to my house, would that work and do they make anything like that?

you can get little wooden and glass ‘greenhouses’ for herbs that are only about 20inches high and the glass would help attract the sun and heat inside – as long as it was facing sunlight.

If you want to keep them outside, you need to build a shelter and have a heat lamp in it. If I were you, I would use a heat and uv in one bulb. They need it if it gets below 65.
