Advice for a greenhouse?
Question by TM: Advice for a greenhouse?
I recently purchased an 8×8 greenhouse and would like some advice to help me get going. We were planning on putting a straw bottom down but I’m not sure what the pros/cons of that. Also I live in the Seattle area and primarily want to use the greenhouse to grow vegetables. I want ideas on what will grow effectively and any advice that will help me get this started.

I think gravel would be better. However google Gardenweb, it has forums to help people with all kinds of growing questions. A wealth of information.

If you can keep the straw dry, it’ll work. However, if the straw gets wet it can get moldy and start to rot, which would introduce trouble into your greenhouse.
Plant root vegetables – radishes, beets, etc., and leafy crops such as lettuce, spinach, and chard. If you want to grow something like peppers or tomatoes, you’re going to have to pollinate the flowers by hand in order to get fruit.
